Recreating Islanders : Raycast Normal and SetActive in Unity : Part 2

This is a re-release of a video from my old channel, A Digital Mind. Part of a series of Unity tutorials. In this tutorial we work through the next steps in our detecting the position of our mouse on screen and how that translates to the games 3D world space. Here we will adjust the positioning of our object, determine where it can and cant be placed (using the Raycast normal) and change the object material accordingly. This video does assume some basic Unity background but even beginners shouldn’t struggle too much.

The tutorial covers features of Unity 3D such as the following:

  • Raycast
  • Input
  • Raycasthit
  • Raycast.normal
  • Renderer
  • SetActive
  • Bounds
  • ScreenPointToRay
  • Tranform.Position
  • LayerMask
  • GameObject

I hope that you find this exploration of Islanders mechanics helpful! Any questions, please leave in the comments below, on YouTube or via contacting me on Twitter and I’ll endeavor to assist!
